—— Work

Four companies.

One sold to Skype, one took producers from bedroom to Top 40, one listed on NASDAQ, one joined Function Health.

GroupMe

Co-founder · 2010–2011

  • Built in about 18 hours at the TechCrunch Disrupt NYC hackathon, May 2010 — a working group-texting prototype on the Twilio API.
  • Raised $850K, then $10.6M; the SXSW 2011 "GroupMe Grill" pushed millions of texts and won the SXSW Breakout Digital Trend award.
  • Acquired by Skype in August 2011 for a reported ~$85M — roughly 15 months after the hackathon. Weeks later Microsoft acquired Skype.
  • Still alive today — outlived Skype itself.

Don't listen to me talk — go and build something. Focus on what you're good at, solve a real world problem, use the tools that you have to make it happen.

Splice

Co-founder & CEO, later Executive Chairman · 2013–2022

  • Co-founded with Matt Aimonetti in 2013 — the "GitHub for musicians," seeded by a concert conversation with Disco Biscuits guitarist Jon Gutwillig.
  • Grew from a $2.75M seed to a $55M Series D led by Goldman Sachs — ~$160M raised total, ~$500M reported valuation, 4M+ users.
  • Paid $40M+ to sound creators; Splice samples appear in records by Eminem, Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa, Doja Cat and more.
  • Stepped down as CEO in 2022 after eight years; remained Executive Chairman.

We think we can build the most iconic company in music history.

SuppCo

Co-founder & CEO · 2023–2026

  • The companion app for your supplement stack — 200K+ products indexed, TrustScore quality ratings, AI label scanning, expert protocols.
  • $5.5M seed co-led by Union Square Ventures and True Ventures, with BoxGroup and Compound.
  • Born from his own 300-lb → functional-medicine turnaround and an ugly Google spreadsheet that became a product.
  • Acquired by Function Health, May 2026 — the whole team joined; Steve had been a Function member and investor first.

The space is so misaligned with consumer health and outcomes… we could make sense of a giant industry and help people.

Now: Function & BandWith

Builder · 2026–

  • Now at Function, following the SuppCo acquisition — connecting supplement routines to real lab data.
  • Building BandWith, a fan platform for the jamband community he came from — web, iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, CarPlay, and live video.
  • Ships it himself, daily, with AI coding agents — prompt from his phone, working feature branch deployed.

It's more of a 'maybe done list.'
